Winter Shelter

Next to a frozen lake, a trapper's cabin offers shelter on the forested south side of the refuge. The wintering ground of the caribou herd is a few miles to the east, near Old Crow, Yukon Territory. The forest offers caribou thermal cover, access to lichen (winter browse) and wind protection.
